U.S. Navy Steering Station Manufactured by Sperry -- 45" diam.

This authentic post WWII U.S. Navy ship's steering station was manufactured by Sperry Gyroscope Company, Inc., Brooklyn New York. The manufacturers plate located on the reverse side of the stand states "ELECTRIC MECHANICAL STEERING STAND" SERIAL NUMBER 2566, and was inspected by the US Navy with their insignia on the plate. The brass and aluminum 8 spoke wheel measures 45 inches in diameter and turns smoothly on its brass axle. The stand is cast out of aluminum and retains most of its navy grey paint. The entire station stands 56 3/4 inches tall to the top of the wheel. The pedestal itself measures 37 inches and is supported on a 14 inch X 14 inch base. A large SPERRY oval label is mounted on to the front of the stand. The top of the stand displays a rudder indicator with degrees etched on to an applied bar with 0 degrees to 35 degrees, both left and right. The arrow indicator is not working. The wheel appears to have had an inner ring on the wheel where a screw hole is still present on each wheel spoke. All in all a nice steering stand.
