The Hand Improved Depth Gauge, John E. Hand & Sons Co., Manufacturer of Nautical Instruments "for sounding in depths of from Five to One Hundred Fathoms without stopping or slowing.". Recorder no. 3854 and tested date of 5-18-26. In original wood instrument box  -with printed instructions and test information mounted on to the inside of the box lid. Box dimensions: Width:17 1/2 inches x 4" x 4". A rare surviving example of this maritime instrument!

A black scale and a milk glass jar that holds washers that was originally included with the gauge are missing
