A 19th century Seth Thomas marine ships clock with exterior bell and second hand movement. 30 hour movement. The clock face states "SETH THOMAS, U.S.A., PAT. NOV. 4, 1879" with roman numeral numbers. The bezel is twist off style. The nickel-plated brass case shows wear and some plate loss on edges. The wood back is original. Brass mounting rings on the top and bottom of the clock. Clock strike adjustment is located on the left side. Fast/slow adjustment at top above the number 12. Case measures 10 1/2 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches deep. Nickel-plated brass case measures 6 1/4 inches in diameter. The cast brass bell is 3 1/2 inches in diameter.
CONDITION: The movement was last serviced by the previous owner’s clock restorer, dated 6/15/00. Clock runs and bell strikes correctly.The bell with a clean, bright ring. The clock face with numerous surface scratches from use. This is a nice early example of ships bell clock.
