A hard to find, British made, early 20th century ships Meteorite shuttered signal lamp, retaining its original removable burner light. The maker's label attached to the hinged lantern hood, states "METEORITE" "1078 92." This signaling light is composed of a heavy copper housing with brass fittings and retains an old yellow enamel paint over an earlier battleship gray. The lantern front with a fitted Fresnel lens that survives in perfect condition. To the right of the lens is a finger shutter latch that moves the interior shutter housing. To the left is the hinged lid lock with chain and hook and a sliding cover that opens to reveal a small glass peephole for observing the interior light. The removable interior burner has a sliding back plate with a bail handle on top. The copper fuel housing with hinged burner with original glass globe. The light adjustment ring is embossed "SHERWOODS LTD BHAM." All of the light interior is painted a gloss black. On the back side of the light is a triangular grip handle. A swing handle is located on the top of the chimney.
CONDITION: The light survives in remarkably good, still operational condition. The yellow painted surface retains most of the paint, but shows losses in various spots that shows through to the old grey paint and copper surface.
