Exceptional, matching pair of authentic, British made "METEORITE" solid copper ship's port & starboard navigation lanterns, removed years ago from the Steel Screw Steamer 'GASTRANA.' The name 'GASTRANA' is engraved on brass badges located on the shoulder of each light. The copper cases are fitted with brass labels including port, starboard and Meteorite plates with serial numbers "59711" and "59712". The thick glass Fresnel lense survive in excellent, like new condition, free of chips or cracks. The lantern interior is reached thru slide-up, removable back doors. Each lantern lenses are fitted with one (red) and (two) blue removable internal colored lense filters that aid in cleaning interior light. Retains the original burner with back convexed reflectors and lift handles, and are mounted on slide-out trays. Brass hoisting bale handles are attached to the lantern chimney. Extremely hard to find with actual ship provenance!
CONDITION: Overall, this pair of navigation lanterns are in good condition. The starboard lantern has a few dents on the front lantern shoulder. One of the interior burners is missing it's adjustable wick. Pleasing old copper patina!
Dimensions: Stands 22 inches tall, exclusive of the bail handle, with 10 inch back sides. Lanterns weigh approx. 17 pounds each.
The 'GASTRANA' was built in 1949 at Smith's Dock Company Ltd., South Bank, england.
