Product Description

•••••
An authentic solid brass ship's porthole, removed years ago from a decommissioned WWII US Navy ship and repurposed years ago into a hanging nautical mirror. Retains a wonderful, weathered brass/bronze patina throughout. Measures 21 inch outer diameter with a 16 inch interior glass mirror. Weighs 32 pounds.

ABOUT THIS MIRROR: This is the outer porthole that was bolted to the ship's hull. It retains the two "keys" or "dogbolts used to batten down the window or storm cover 'deadlight' to the sash, as well as the mounting bracket with pin. The mounting holes (except two) retain the original brass mounting bolts with the bolts cut down in length to fit the hole depth.  The mirror is mounted using a wood backing and the original brass shaft. The mirror can be hung using the open top mounting hole, or we can add a heavy picture wire to the back.

A porthole on a ship may also be called a side scuttle or sidescuttle (side hole).
