Composed completely of figured Asian camphor wood, the trunk features dovetailed construction, reinforced corners with quality brass caps and supports. Other hardware includes opposing side brass bail handles, a recessed front handle above a key escutcheon plate. The lid is supported with triple brass hinges that open to an open storage space. Retains the original trunk lock but missing the key.

Condition: Good wear consistent with age and use. A few shrinkage cracks and water stains on lid top. Hand waxed to bring up the aged patina.

Campaign-era trunks and coffers were the travel items of British military officers who bought and commissioned them for their campaigns abroad to India and Ceylon. The officers, being predominately from the upper classes, were accustomed to a certain standard of living and found it unthinkable to travel without their necessaries.
